Monte-Carlo, 13 June 2019 – Line honours has been decided at the 2019 Rolex Giraglia, one of the Mediterranean’s most revered and historic sailing events, with which Rolex has enjoyed a longstanding partnership for over twenty years. Crossing the finish line off the Yacht Club de Monaco at 04:35.35 local time, George David’s Rambler was first home completing the 241 nautical mile course in 16 hours and 35 seconds. The 88-ft United States maxi came close to overturning the seven-year old race record, eventually finishing a little over an hour behind the time set by Esimit Europa 2 in 2012.

Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’s Wallycento Magic Carpet Cubed was second over the line, finishing just under 35 minutes behind Rambler. Narrowly missing out on the race record, the efforts of the leading yachts to overcome the existing benchmark exemplifies the pursuit of excellence that Rolex so admires in the sport of sailing.

At 16:00 local time, 33 of the 243-strong fleet had finished the race. There had been 32 retirements.

A final review of the 2019 Rolex Giraglia, including details on the overall race winner, will be published on Saturday 15 June.

The latest results from the 2019 Rolex Giraglia, organised by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez can be viewed here.
