With only three months until the start of the Louis Vuitton Challenger Series, the team has been busy training and preparing for racing, which begins in San Francisco on July 4th. The team spent the majority of March in the shed modifying our AC72 and turning a standard AC45 into a foiling AC45. We expedited our time to get onto a foiling boat by modifying an AC45 while we wait for our second AC72 which will fully foil.
Hanuman, Lionheart, Rainbow, Ranger and Velsheda — will be sailing together for the first time ever in the Caribbean. As well, it will be the first time since the 1930s, considered the J Boats’ Golden Era, so many have converged for a single racing event.
Coach Rod Davis revisits his blog on the art of “espionage”…..
After my blog on spying on the competition, people have been asking how teams manage to keep secrets when the opposition can approach to within 200 metres because cameras are more than capable of getting in close at that range.
This week we look back at the once fierce American and Australian America’s Cup rivalry. We meet a man who just can’t leave his fascination and love of the event behind, now Race Director of the 34th America’s Cup, Australian Iain Murray. And we travel to London to the design rooms of Garrard’s, the world’s oldest jewellers, responsible for making the oldest trophy in sport.
A big step forward for Artemis Racing as we launched our foiling AC45 onto San Francisco Bay. This is the first step in our foiling training for our second AC72. The modifications from our one design AC45 to our now foiling AC45 took about a month to complete.
AC UNCUT’s Genny Tulloch catches up with Oracle Team USA skipper James Spithill six months after their AC72 capsize. James talks the psychological benefit of going through the capsize, and how he believes Oracle Team USA is stronger than ever because of it.
After six months of training and racing in the austral summer the Team Luna Rossa leaves Auckland to resume its racing activity in Naples, where it will participate at the last event of the America’s Cup World Series (16 – 21 April) with the two AC 45 catamarans Luna Rossa Piranha and Luna Rossa Swordfish, respectively steered by Chris Draper and Francesco Bruni.
New AM-Cam video shot at Takapuna Beach on Friday March 8, 2013. Includes previous clips together with new video of the two AC72′s sailing back to their base on the Waitemata Harbour. In this new footage Luna Rossa starts well behind Emirates Team NZ’s AC72 and appears to be sailing higher and faster than the New Zealand Challenger which dominated the other racing on the day
Six months to start of 2013 America’s Cup Finals
