The forecast for the second day of Act 5 in Cardiff was for lighter winds but the breeze over-delivered again on Cardiff Bay. If the increase in wind pressure was unexpected, the pressure on the teams as they battled for their position on the leaderboard was exactly as expected. The nine boats fought tooth and nail for the best position off the start line and gave no quarter in the close racing that unfolded on Cardiff Bay in front of the public and VIP guests.

Collisions, close calls and thousands of spectators on a spectacular day in Porto
The penultimate day of the Extreme Sailing Series in Porto was one of the most sensational days the Series has ever witnessed. Two big crashes on the water forced both GAC Pindar and Oman Air to retire from racing, which unfortunately for GAC Pindar left them out for the day, and more public then the Series have ever witnessed in one day with thousand congregating on all sides of the riverbank – all of which was broadcast live on national Portuguese television.

An incredible six wins for McMillan, but frustration for Pennec after running aground
Leigh McMillan seemed unflappable today in Porto, following up a race win in this morning’s offshore racing with an astonishing five wins within the stadium this afternoon. Whilst there were celebrations dockside this evening for McMillan’s men on The Wave, Muscat, it was utter frustration for Pierre Pennec on Groupe Edmond de Rothschild after careering into the rocks in the shallows by the sea wall in the final race of the day causing serious damage to their daggerboard and forcing them to retire form the final race, which ultimately saw the French fall to third place.

A pesar de que la apertura oficial del Acto 2 al público no será hasta mañana, miles de personas se acercaron a ver de cerca la primera jornada de Extreme Sailing Series en acción. China Team recibió el mayor apoyo en su debut en la competición pero la gloria se la llevó el equipo austriaco Red Bull Sailing Team. El medallista olímpico Roman Hagara, patrón y caña del equipo y su táctico Hans Peter Steinacher utilizaron su conocimiento del campo de regatas adquirido durante los Juegos Olímpicos de 2008 para subir a lo más alto de la clasificación.
